Clearwater Pond Basics

The requirements and specification of a water garden will depend on — Pond Type — fish, watercourse, waterfall and size;
Sunlight exposure and Temperature variation; Trees and shrubbery surrounding and falling into the pond; however the basic components to achieve a ClearPond solution should include:

  • Pond liner or pre-formed pond — Our selection of pre-formed ponds provide a quick and versatile solution or we can supply PVC or rubber liner to line your custom built shape — design the pond so rain water and debris fall/flow away from the pond edges.
  • Pump for operating a filter, a water course or a water feature — Pond pumps are specifically designed to provide a relatively low pressure flow to filter systems — pumps designed for swimming pools or dewatering will not be suitable for use with pond filter equipment.
  • Filter for biological-mechanical cleaning — Without a pond filter your pond water will get pretty mucky. The pond filter should have a filter that can capture and grow good bacteria to help maintain the waters proper balance.
  • Skimmer for surface cleaning — Particularly if the pond is surrounded by leafy trees.
  • Pond aeration to supply the pond with oxygen — Waterfalls and fountains give aeration, specific aeration equipment maybe required.
